South Street
About South Street
As an east-west road located around the middle of Center City, South Street is a main provider of nighttime entertainment and great shopping. Originally called Cedar Street in William Penn?s first city plan, South Street has grown into a hustle bustle of culture and livelihood. Bar hopping, clubbing and live music are things not unusual for this part of the neighborhood. Even with a large nightlife scene, South Street is also involved in the community. Events like Greenfest, a weekend dedicated to raising money for environmental projects and spreading awareness, are popular and well attended on this busy street. Plans are also in progress for making the area more biker as well as pedestrian friendly, by extending safety features in traffic light systems. Big events and holidays like Mardi Gras or Halloween are always celebrated all-out, so South Street is the best place to be for large festivals and parties. There are also a large variety of venues including everything from Irish pubs, homey cafes, upbeat clubs and romantic settings. No matter who you are or what you want to do, South Street will entertain you all night long.
