About Greater Kensington
To celebrate the New Year, the city of Philadelphia gathers together in what is called the ?Mummers Parade.? Inspired by the ever famous and extremely popular String Band of the Greater Kensington, the Mummers Parade unites music, dancing, floats, food, and people from every area of the city. There are small competitions between floats and even between bands! It is a whole day event you definitely cannot miss out on if you?re lucky enough to be in town during the parade. The Kensington String band is one of the most popular and sought after performances worldwide. The strictly volunteer band performs nationally and internationally throughout the year, although the most popular performance is on New Years in Philly. There is no other place to be on New Years eve in Philly, but make sure you bring your dancing shoes, and an appetite!
