Description
MANAYUNK got its name from the Lenape Native American word meaning, “place where we drink,” which identified its ideal location at the confluence of the Schuylkill River & the Wissahickon Creek.
During the 1800’s & into the 20th century, Manayunk’s location on the river allowed it to boom in the manufacture & sale of fine textiles. The building you’re in was once a woolen mill, opened in 1822 by Anne Dawson. The original antique scale, that was used to weigh the wool brought into the factory, can be found at the entrance of the Manayunk Brewing Company even to this day!
In 1912, the Krook family took over, but maintained the original cornerstone. The Krook’s Mill, now Manayunk Brewing Company, was one of the linchpins of the American textile industry, & didn’t close its doors until 1992.
Four years later, Harry Renner IV brought the facility back to life as a space for retail business, a fine eatery & brewery for both neighbors & visitors alike to enjoy.
Our first batch of fresh-brewed beer was tapped on October 17, 1996. In 2000, we expanded our outdoor seating with a deck overlooking the Schuylkill River. In 2003 we added a Stone Oven & a Sushi Bar to expand our menu selection.
We pride ourselves on using local providers for our produce, baked goods, meats & seafood, all to ensure you the freshest quality possible to complement our award winning beer. Evan Fritz is currently our head brewmaster.
